Mary Jean Ackerman

Mary Jean Ackerman, age 68, of Grand Rapids, died in the comfort of her home and the company of family on Monday, March 13, 2017. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1949 to the late Lorain and Bernadine (Ciminski) Shields. Along with her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her brother Mike Shields. Surviving is her husband of 47 years, Fred and their sons Todd (Sunni) Ackerman and Michael (Shelly) Ackerman; sisters, Margaret (Ken) Little, Janice (Gary) Hammerlund; brother, Don Shields; sister-in-law, Jill Hall; grandchildren, Nichole, Michael, Donovan and two very special great grandchildren, Marissa and Robby as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and a special friend Deb. Mary had a very giving nature and could always be counted on to help others in need. In her free time she enjoyed camping with her family, visits to her sister’s cottage and tending to her flower garden. Mary was a dependable caring woman to all that knew her and will be truly missed. In keeping with Mary’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service is scheduled to take place at Reyers North Valley Chapel on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 3pm with a time of family visitation and fellowship following.
