Mariae was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church in Grand Rapids for many years. She worked as a teacher for the Grand Rapids Catholic School Systems for over 40 years. She was a dedicated teacher who loved each of her students. In life she was most passionate about photography and also loved to travel, listen to music, and dance to polka. She was a loving, caring, vibrant, and compassionate woman who loved life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Mariae was preceded in death by: parents, John and Irmgard Firlit; sisters, Linda Firlit, and Carol Pomaville; and niece, Jenifer Firlit-Skonieczny.
Mariae is survived by: siblings, Robert Firlit, Lora Firlit-Ankeny, Ron (Cheri) Firlit, and Irma (Norm) Johnson; sister-in-law, Tess Firlit; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday July 6, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Jude Catholic Church. The family will welcome guests one hour prior to the start of mass. A Visitation will be held the day before, on July 5, 2023, at Reyers North Valley Chapel from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00pm during the evening visitation at the funeral home. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Muskegon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the scholarship fund at All Saints Academy.
