Kay Lynn Bekampis passed away unexpectedly on February 12, 2023 at the age of 58. Surviving her are her brother, Ron Bekampis and sister, Michelle Bekampis, as well as the rest of her extended family.
Kay was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on December 19, 1964. She was a Polar Bear - Alumni of Creston High School class of 1982. She loved her dogs, they were her “kids” and took them wherever she went. She had bullmastiffs to dachshunds- the latest is Mister, a miniature pinscher. She enjoyed reading Stephen King books. Kay loved the outdoors-anything from hiking, swimming, fishing, golfing, and boating. She was a big sports fan and loved the Red Wings and MSU. She played various sports including volleyball, softball, and billiards. She loved to run and was a health nut. She participated in several triathlons and river bank runs. Kay went to Michigan State University for 2 years and then went to Grand Valley State University and earned her Bachelor’s degree. She went on to receive her Master’s degree in Education while teaching at Shawmut Hills Elementary. She taught throughout the Grand Rapids Public School System for 31 years. She was a highly respected and dedicated teacher. Her students loved her very much and her co-workers will always cherish her humor and discipline that she brought to her classroom. She always made sure she honored her Native American heritage throughout her life.
Kay was a funny, hardworking, and independent women who will be deeply missed by her close friends and family.
A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Reyers North Valley Chapel from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.
