John E. Peters was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 21, 1949 to Robert and Lois Peters. He grew up on Cowan Lake and had many outdoor adventures. He attended Rockford High School where he pursued his love of sports, playing baseball, basketball and football. After graduating, John enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country for 4 years, during the Vietnam War.
After his service, John attended both, Ferris State and the University of Michigan receiving degrees in HVAC, Marketing and Engineering. Most of his career was spent in HVAC Sales and Operational Management. He made many friends along the way.
50 years ago, he met his wife, best friend, and partner in crime, Jane. They shared a passion for sports cars, (MG’s Lotus, Fiero and Solstice), architecture, University of Michigan football, 1960’s music, and enjoying home cooked meals with their parents.
Most of all, John loved being with his family and taking spontaneous adventures, what we referred to as our “no destination vacations”. This meant loading up the van and hitting the road without a plan. We voted on which way to go and some our favorites were Mammoth Cave, a Kentucky Dude Ranch, Niagara Falls and Mackinac Island.
John was a good man and his family loved him dearly. He was so proud of his children. He passed away on April 3, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, George “Ed” Butler and many close friends.
He is survived by his wife Jane, his children: Jeffrey, Audrey and Ashley; his mother in-law, Jean Butler; his brother-in-law James “JB” Butler (Sally) and his nephews: Brian, Bruce and Brad (Melissa and family) Weining.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday April 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St Robert of Newminster Parish: 6477 Ada Dr. SE, Ada, MI 49301.
