John Allen McIsaac

Jack McIsaac, age 81, passed away on March 24, 2013 at home with his family at his side. Jack’s family and friends will remember him as a “guy’s guy”, whose honesty was a hallmark of his personal, professional and spiritual life. His life began on June 18, 1931 in Grand Rapids, son of Beulah and John McIsaac. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother Guy Decker and sister, Jacqueline Mull. Jack is survived by the love of this life and partner of 52 years, Jannette, daughters Michele (Bob Eleveld) McIsaac, Teresa (Jim) Koelzer and Lisa (Scott) Jewell, his very special grandson, Jonathan Koelzer, many nieces and nephews, very special cousins Helen and George Cookingham, and his brother-in-law, Ray Mull. Jack devoutly believed in “God, Country, Corps, Family and Self” and served his country as a US Marine during the Korean War. Jack was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic efforts in the line of duty. He was a member of the American Legion Post #258 and a life-long member of the Elks. In retirement, Jack gave his time and energy generously as a volunteer and was known for his compassion of others. He was passionate about his 10-year work with the West Michigan chapter of the American Red Cross and served as chair of the Disaster Services. Jack participated in several national relief efforts and was most proud of serving as a team member in the first wave of volunteers to help in New York City following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. For 13 years, Jack delivered meals weekly for Meals on Wheels. Jack loved the Catholic Church, chairing the church’s efforts to establish the Monsignor Charles Brophy Foundation, participating in several committees and training of altar servers. Jack especially enjoyed his time at St. Lazare Retreat House. Jack owned Archie’s Party Store in Standale; as a retailer and in retirement, Jack served on the Downtown Development Authority Board and was recently recognized by the DDA for his 23 years of service. Jack does not want anyone to be sad. When you think of him, please remember his broad smile, infectious laugh, sharp sense of humor and his love of storytelling. The family would like to thank the medical professionals who cared for Jack, Faith Hospice and all those who called, visited, sent cards and kept Jack in their prayers. The family will be receiving friends at Reyers North Valley Chapel on Wednesday, March 27 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with a scripture reading at 7:30pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 28 at 11am at St. Jude’s Catholic Church following a visitation from 10-11am.
