Joan was a graduate of Sparta High School, and went to work for Kent County in the Register of Deeds office for 30 years. She was strong in her faith and a parishioner of Messiah Lutheran Church of Grand Rapids. She enjoyed her time with the Casino Club, bowling, and volunteering at the voting booths during election season. She loved gardening and spending time outdoors. She was a devoted wife and mother, who always put her family first. Joan was a loving, compassionate, sweet, and amazing women who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Joan was preceded in death by: sisters, Linda Sheldon, and Helene Pitsch; brother, Nicholas Pitsch; and parents, Richard and Johanna Pitsch.
Joan is survived by: husband, Louis Welke; son, Timothy (Jamie) Lukas; grandchildren, Stephanie (Austin), Kara (AJ), and Adam; great granddaughter, Paisley; brother, Richard Pitsch; and sisters, Donna (Richard) Sheldon, and Jean Hansen.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held the same day, starting at 12:00pm. A Luncheon will be provided after the service, also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or The Alzheimer's Association.
