Joan Lynn (Pett) Huizenga

Joan attended Grand Rapids Central High School. She went on to work for Porter Hills Nursing Community for several years as a laundry supervisor. After her retirement she found her true passion - her fur babies! She began working for the Kent County Animal Shelter, and never met a dog she didn't love. Her love for helping animals was truly her greatest gift. She also was very involved with the children in and around her neighborhood - who all lovingly knew her as 'grandma Joanie'. In her free time, Joan enjoyed going to the beach, shopping, and spending time with her family. Her fun-loving attitude and sassy personality will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Joan was preceded in death by: mom, Marjorie Majewski; dad, Alexander Majewski; and brother, Terrance Pett.

Joan is survived by: children, Tammy Braman, and Karan (Ted) Wiman; grandchildren, Samantha (Nick) Davis, Ricky Braman, Halie (John) Mwakanandi, Emma Wiman, and Evan Wiman; great-grandchildren, Cade & Tate Davis, and John, Myles, Maisy, & Jack Mwakanandi; sister, Connie (Steve) Wiltjer; honorary daughter, Tracy Darling; and 'granddogs', Brooke and Parker.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024 at 1:00pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A time of visiting will begin at 11:00am and go until the time of service, also at the funeral home. Joan will be laid to rest at Fairplains Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Kent County Animal Shelter.
