Jane was born in Hackensack, New Jersey on May 7, 1949. She spent a happy childhood traveling frequently due to her father’s work, including spending a year in Europe.
Growing up she lived in Rockford, MI, where she kept horses and attended a one-room schoolhouse. Jane left Rockford for Kalamazoo College, but returned to live at home to comfort her father after the death of her mother. She finished a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and later got a Masters Degree in Education from Western Michigan University and a Teaching Certificate from Aquinas College.
Jane worked many different jobs during her life, but three of her most notable were stay-at-home mom, elementary school teacher’s aide, and nutritional counselor. These jobs were all a natural fit and exemplify her caring, empathetic, and gentle nature. Jane was always full of laughter, supportive of everyone around her, and ready with a kind word no matter what the situation. She enjoyed playing pinochle with her cards group, exercising every day, competing in triathlons, baking delicious pies, and doting on her dogs.
Jane is survived by her husband, David Higley; four children, Geoffrey (April) Berry, Joseph (Christa) Berry, Shannon (Matt) Higley, and Michael (Trisha) Higley; and five grandchildren, Cody Thornell, Calvin Berry, Kathryn Jane Berry, Nathan Higley-Klein, and Saul Higley-Klein. She is preceded in death by her parents Raymond Isaac Meyers and Rebecca Emma Meyers (née Giger).
Services will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. Visitation will be from 2pm until 4pm, and a memorial service will follow at 4pm.
Contributions in memory of Jane can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
