James "Jim" Glenn Miller, age 68, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on February 9, 2024. A lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, Jim was born on November 14th, 1955 to Richard and Joanne Miller. He graduated from Northview High School in 1973 and went on to become a journeyman tool and die worker for many years before finding the career that became his heart and soul: Executive Director of Shepherds of Independence, a non-profit supportive housing facility on the northwest side of Grand Rapids. "Shepherds" brought him so much meaning and joy to his life, and he found a way to connect with each resident in a unique way.
He found great pleasure listening to and sharing music with anyone and everyone, attending concerts with loved ones several times a year. Jim loved fine food, and was himself a talented cook and baker, producing several special occasion cakes for many family celebrations. He was skilled in building by hand, and could excel at anything he set his mind to. He never lost his love for learning, his appreciation for art and museums, and most fondly he enjoyed creating memories with his daughters and grandchildren.
He is survived by children Loretta (Jeff) Marinelli and Donna (Adam) Silva; grandchildren Elijah James, Elio Jeffrey, Enzio Jude, Abel Jameson, and Delylah Joanne; stepmother Harriet Field, brothers Richard (Michelle) Miller, and Jonathan (Angela) Miller; sisters Loretta Garrison, Jennifer (Christopher) Teliczan, and Melissa (Thomas Massin) Miller-Voelkel; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and countless friends . He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Richard and Joanne as well as his brother Jeffrey (Vickie) Miller.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
