James Wilbur Baker, 78 of Grand Rapids Michigan, died peacefully with family by his side on April 21st, 2019. He was born to Hugh and Jean (Pearsall) Baker on November 30th, 1940. Always a scholar, he never missed a day of school and became one of Michigan State University’s College of Engineering Tau Beta Pi inductees. His life revolved around the automotive industry in which he was able to leave his mark in various ways. He loved to spend his time researching at the Grand Rapids Public Library and was a known local in the restaurants near his urban GR home where he would get his cup of coffee and tell of his latest automobile restoration projects. He also enjoyed his weekly gathering with his Car Club friends with whom he worked on many large restoration projects. Many would agree, his greatest attributes were his kind heart and his efforts to help those in his life with the skills which God gave him.
Jim is survived by his daughter Jamie (Erik) Sievertsen and grandchildren Erik II, Emily, Troy and Trent. Also, he is survived by his brother Richard (Mary Jo) Baker, sister Joyce McKivitz, nephews Dennis and Michael Baker and Don Mckivitz Jr, and niece Melissa (McKivitz) Huiskens and families.
In respect for Jim’s thirst for enlightenment, he will be providing knowledge for the next generation as his physical body was given to the MSU Willed Body Program at the Secchia Center where it will remain in Grand Rapids for a designated period of time.
A Memorial reception is planned for May 12th at 4pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A time of Sharing begins at 4:30.
