Frederick John (Fritz) Hormuth of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away on October 1, 2022 at the age of 80. After several months of declining health, Fritz died peacefully with his wife of 57 years, Mary, and their children by his side.
Fritz was born in Grand Rapids on September 27, 1942, to father Frank and mother Clara Hormuth. The youngest of three, Fritz was the brother to sisters, Charlene Sciamanna, and Mary Lynne (Arnold) Junewick.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen (Harmon) Hormuth; children Colleen (Timothy) Glynn, Lisa (Robert) Howard, Kevin (Sarah) Hormuth, Daniel (Sarah) Hormuth and Michael (Christina) Hormuth. Fritz and Mary also have thirteen grandchildren (Daniel, Matthew and Meghan Glynn, Brendan, Connor and Kelsey Howard, Hannah, Hadley and Hayden Hormuth, Monica and Shannon Hormuth, Leighton and Kellan Hormuth) and one great-grandson (Jack Glynn). Fritz was also loved by Mary’s siblings, many nieces and nephews and all who knew him.
A visitation for Fritz is planned for Monday, October 3rd from 5 – 8 pm with a rosary starting at 7:30 pm. The visitation will be at the Reyers Funeral Home at 2815 Fuller Avenue NE in Grand Rapids. A short visitation will also take place an hour prior to the rite of Christian burial at St. Alphonsus Church, 224 Carrier NE on Tuesday, October 4th at 11 am.
People wishing to honor Fritz’s lifelong commitment to family, church and community can make donations to the St. Alphonsus Endowment Fund for a scholarship to be created in his name which would allow an All-Saints Academy student to attend Catholic Central High School.
