Memories of Aunt Esther continue. Excitement at being her flower girl when she became Mrs Arthur Choma. An evening in Livonia that ended with my going into labor with my daughter. Both of us being "christened" by a swooping Sea Gull while watching Shamu at Sea World. High kicking together while our husbands shook their heads. A hilarious girls three day weekend when I took Aunt Esther and Aunt Lois to Universal Studios. Reading memories of her today, I feel reconnected with Cousins out of touch since they were children. She, the youngest of eight siblings, kept the ties that bind us together.

In Esther's name, the Sullivan girls, Kathy, Maureen, Colleen, Doreen and Janeen have made a donation to Helen Devos Children's Hospital per Esther's wishes. There was no opportunity to name the tribute nor notify the family, but we wanted you to know we honored her.

A happy foursome at Lake Charlevoix in Michigan. Family opinion was that Esther's husband Art and Leo's wife Iris were the saints in the family!

My deepest sympathies to Esther's family, especially her precious girls Debbie, Darlene and Marcia. Esther was a matriarch in the family in the clearest sense. The youngest and last of the large Sullivan family, and our Dad's dear baby sister. Among my personal remembrances of her are when she loaned me decent clothes and gave me money for a coat and shoes when I had a high school trip to NYC, coming to my high school play with my mom and dad, the Wedgewood vase she gave me as a wedding present and I still use every day, sitting on our screened porch at the lake and dueling with my dad for control of the conversation, and one of the great love affairs I have witnessed in her marriage to Uncle Art. A great mom, grandmother, and aunt.  A character and a great lady. We will miss you, Esther.

My dear Aunt Esther was always a blessing in my life.  She was an active participant as a Girl Scout leader and often a great dinner companion up at the Mayflower for pub steak and salad.   After losing mom, Aunt Esther maintained a strong family connection and I looked forward to her Birthday & Christmas cards with letters sharing news over the years of my cousins and their children as they grew up.  Esther was the kind of aunt I tried to emulate for Mark’s children after he passed to let them know they were loved and watched over.  She touched my heart by treating mom as a sister and always remembering our anniversary and treating my Art with respect.  She will be missed and our deepest sympathy to my cousins and their families.  The Sullivan siblings are all together again with their dear Dora & Jem.  I can picture mom fixing her New Years corned beef dinner at the lake and Uncle Leo entertaining them all.  

My dearest Aunt Esther was and will always be an inspiration to me and helped raise me when, aligned with her allies: faith, trust, kindness, warmth and understanding she propagated the wisdom, grace, love and fortitude of her "The Greatest Generation". Of which she was a shining example. I mourn for her passing. 

Don't be an idiot like me and fail to tell the people that you love that you love them before they pass this world. As we all do.

I was 7 and my pretty Aunt Esther was 18 when I watched her tearing around preparing for a date with someone named Art Choma. With her hair in curlers and cream on her face, I thought she was so silly and wondered what all her excitement was about. Turned out it was about the beginning of  a match made in Heaven. 
I was 13 when their twins were born.  Bottles and diapers everywhere and a young couple basking in Heavens blessings. I pray that knowing Aunt Esther and Uncle Art are together again in Heaven will bring some comfort in the midst of our sorrow from her loss.

I was blessed by Esther's caring and friendship for over fifty years.
She was loved by me and many relatives and friends who knew her.
