Emmit Amidon Jr. age 93, died April 5, 2015 after a brief illness. Emmit was born on March 27, 1922 in Chesaning, Michigan to Emmit and Martha (Bates) Amidon. Emmit is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Jean (McConnaughey), they were married June 29, 1946. He is also survived by his 6 children; Carol Amidon of Grand Rapids, Doug (Carol) Amidon of Kentwood, Laurie (Bob) Murphy of Battle Creek, Larry (Carol) Amidon of Grand Rapids, Terry (Marianne) Amidon of Lowell and Nancy (Kevin) Spuller of Walhalla, 8 grandchildren; Bradley, Matthew, Andrew, Kyle, Kellie, Sara, Kevin and Nicole and 2 great-grandchildren; Maci and Hayli. Emmit was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth in 2014. Emmit enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 24, 1940 and served until the end of WWII in 1945. He worked for Dexter Lock Industries and was a long time parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Parish. He enjoyed watching college football, but was an avid Notre Dame football fan and enthusiast and would not miss a game when the Fighting Irish were playing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and retelling his stories of the war and his life. Please join his family for visitation at Reyers North Valley Chapel on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 5-8pm with a Rosary at 7:30pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish with Rev. George Darling officiating. An additional hour of visitation will begin at 10am at the church. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Emmit to Blessed Sacrament Parish.
