Ed was born and raised in the Traverse City - Lake Leelanau area and was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School of Lake Leelanau. Ed went on to attend Aquinas College before joining the United States Air Force. Ed proudly served his country for over 4 years. He went on to work for Rapistan Conveyor Systems and retired after 30 years of dedicated work. Ed had a strong faith and he was a parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church of Grand Rapids for over 30 years. In his free time, Ed enjoyed hunting with his brothers, nephews and friends; spending time with family - especially the Bussey family reunions every four years, as well as, playing golf and softball, and traveling with the special woman in his life, Sue Zuchowski. He was a funny man that loved his four daughters dearly and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ed was preceded in death by: parents, John and Cecilia Bussey; daughter, Brenda Bussey; granddaughter, Michelle Hellwig; brothers, John Bussey and Bruce (Dee) Bussey; sister, Rosella (Bob) Bonner; and brother-in-law, Jim McNabb.
Ed is survived by: partner of 20 years, Sue Zuchowski; daughters, Carmen (Edward) Thomas, Dori (Mark) Polites, and Sara (Brian) Shelton; grandchildren, Nicole (Kyle) Smith, Hannah (Justin) Plant, Audrey Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Kyle Polites, Tess Polites, Sophia Shelton, and Max Shelton; great-grandchildren, Rylee Smith, Wyatt Smith, and Jones Plant; siblings, Ron (Linda) Bussey, Irene (Patrick) Bruen, Marcella McNabb, Jane (Donald) Hutchinson, and Terri Bussey; sister-in-law, Ruth Bussey; as well as, many other nieces, nephews, friends, and other extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Jude Catholic Church,1120 4 Mile Road NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525. The family will welcome guests one hour prior to the start of mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church.
