In 1952, Doris was united in marriage to the love of her life, Lloyd L. Gunn, who preceded in her death in 2009.
With a desire to have a professional career, Doris attended business school and soon after found employment as a legal secretary with a local lawyer. Eventually, she moved on to office work with a small local newspaper before accepting a bigger challenge as a secretary at Rapistan and, ultimately, retiring from Dexter Lock in 1981.
Being a part of the community was important to Doris. She was active in, and life member of, the Order of the Eastern Star #381/Peninsular Chapter #65, her sorority ΒΣΦ/Laureate Gamma Nu and the Grand Rapids Scottish Society. She also spent many years helping with the Festival of Arts and as a member of the Clan Gunn Society - Great Lakes District.
Doris was a strong woman with a fierce work ethic. She was dedicated to her family and loved the social aspects of all her clubs and organizations. She took pride in the volunteer work with the Grand Rapids area and enjoyed learning about the genealogy of her family’s Scottish heritage. She will be missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by her four children: Michael, Alison, Kathleen {KC} and Brian; daughter-in-law Paula Genovese, grandson Eamonn Gunn. Nieces and nephews: Ernie J. (DeeAnna) Moore, Janet (Derek) Kidder, Delores (Dennis) Moore, Chuck (Carmen) Moore, Patti (Tim) Webster, Sue (Brian) Kelsey, Jim Gunn, Ann Gunn, and Peggy (James) Eichenberg.; and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephew. Besides her husband; she was preceded in death by her brothers Ernest and Charles Moore.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 1pm to 4pm at The Masonic Temple, on the 4th floor, 223 E. Fulton St. Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
