Charles Alton Mervau, age 87, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013. Charles was born in Northport, MI on October 14, 1925 to Robert E. and Margaret (Hunter) Mervau. Charles was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII, surviving the Battle of the Bulge and Huertgen Forest. Through his dedicated service he received a Purple Heart and The Bronze Star.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Maria in 2012; his infant brother, Arnold Robert; 2 sisters, Jeanne (Orin) Fredrickson and Dorothy (Harry, Jr.) Smith; brother, Wayne (Alice) Mervau and sister-in-law, Maxine Mervau.
Surviving are 3 sons, John (Cheryl) VanRosmalen, Michael VanRosmalen, and Joseph (Rennie) VanRosmalen; special friend, Debbie Falicki and 2 brothers, Robert E. Mervau, Jr. and Richard C. (Barbara) Mervau. Also surviving are grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave. N.E. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The rosary will be recited on Thursday at the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00.
