Carole D. Johnston, age 80 of Grand Rapids, passed away at Heather Hills with her loving husband of 57 years by her side. Carole was born in Grand Rapids on May 29, 1941 to Robert & LaVerne (Breas) Pastoor. On October 10, 1964, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Gerald.
A natural caregiver, Carole went to school to become a nurse. However, she found her passion for the outdoors took her in another direction and she spent many years as a nature guide for the Howard Christianson Nature Preserve. She loved all animals and was a popular pet sitter for countless dogs and cats.
Her love of nature carried over to all aspects of Carole’s life. She loved being outdoors, hiking, walking her beloved shih tzu, Patches, riding her motorized bike and fishing. Carole and Jerry loved spending their summers at their cottage in Newaygo.
Watching and feeding birds, brought joy to Carole, and she was a member of the Audubon Society. Carole leaves behind a legacy of kindness to all of God’s creations. However, she will be remembered for being a devoted wife, caring sister and loving aunt. She will be missed dearly.
Carole is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gerald; her sister Nancy Morritt; her brother Paul (Debra) VanRandwyk, and her sisters-in-law Patricia Gabbert and Lola Blaczyk as well as many other relatives.
Funeral Services for Carole will be held on Friday December 17, 2021 at 12:00 p.m at Reyers North Valley Chapel where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
