Growing up in Grand Rapids, Brenda graduated from Central High School and went on to Grand Rapids Community College Noorthoek Academy. She also took baking courses at Kent Occupational Training. She went on to work for McDonalds, Mejier and Bonefish Grill.
Eventually, she discovered the best way for her to contribute to her community was by volunteering her time to bring joy to other people. She was involved with GoGetters for Jesus, Feeding America and Special Olympics. Sharing happiness and love was what Brenda, or Birdie as her family called her, did best.
Raised in the Catholic faith, Brenda had a deep and strong faith. She grew up at St. Isidore before becoming a member at Blessed Sacrament. She loved her church family, and enjoyed giving Fr. George a hard time from her permanent second row seat.
Brenda was very adventurous and was always up for fun. She loved going to concerts, traveling with her family, hiking and camping. Her sweet personality leant to a soft spot for animals. Her creative talents were shown by her cooking and baking skills and artistic flair with ceramics.
However, Birdie, will be best remembered for her unconditional love for everyone she knew. She was kind and thoughtful sending letters and cards to her family just to show she cared. She was generous of her love and she hands down gave the best hugs on the planet. The joy she brought to those around her will be missed terribly.
Brenda is survived by her mother Joanne Wiebenga; her siblings: Tom (Deb), Jeanine (Fabian) z, Billy (Ann), Kathi (Paul), Nancy (Scott), Darmon (Sherri), and her faithful canine, Harley as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and cherished great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father William in 1990 and her adored cats Autumn & Chloe and dog Ziggy.
Visitation for Brenda will be held on Sunday January 16, 2022 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel where a Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. On Monday January 17, 2022, Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish where the family will receive friends for one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Brenda’s honor be directed to Feeding America or the Humane Society of West Michigan, because she will need us to step in to fill her shoes with her favorite organizations.
