Bernard Bauer, age 90, of Roscommon, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in Grand Rapids. Bernard was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy having served during WWII. Mr. Bauer was a founding principal and partner of Progressive Engineering Consultants of Grand Rapids in 1962 (Progressive AE), having retired in 1986. Bernard is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jean; son, Thomas (Annamarie) Bauer and many special nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles and his sister, Lavinia “Babe” Rhowmine.
A Mass of Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 224 Carrier St. N.E. with Rev. Patrick Grile C.Ss.R. as celebrant. The family will receive friends at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave. N.E. on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 2:00p.m. until 4:00p.m. and again from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7:30p.m. The family will also receive friends at the church on Monday from 10:00a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.
The family would like to acknowledge and give special thanks to the staff of Spectrum Health (Blodgett Campus) Acute Care for the Elderly for their exceptional care of Mr. Bauer.
