Alan Ray Vis

Al was a graduate of Creston High School and went on to attend trade school to be a master electrician. Al proudly served his country in The United States Navy from 1960 - 1964. He worked for Steelcase as a maintenance supervisor for over 25 years. He enjoyed watching westerns and playing games on his computer. He and his wife, Jan, loved to entertain at home with their family and friends. Al was a member of The Casino Club, The VFW, The American Legion, The Vytautas Aid Society, and St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church - and he loved meeting friends and family at them all. Al may have had a tough exterior and an outspoken personality, but he had a soft spot for his family. He valued his family and always put them first. Al’s greatest gift was his wife, Jan. His love and care for his wife was next to none. Al was a jokester and always knew how to make you smile. He was a stubborn, funny, and selfless man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Al was preceded in death by: both parents, and his brother and sister.

Al is survived by: wife of 58 years, Jan Vis; children, Melissa (Steven) Raak, and Alan J. (Lynn) Vis; grandchildren, Alan S. Vis, Zachary Raak, and Nicholas Raak; step-grandchildren, Skye (fiancé, TJ), and Jazmine; great grandchildren, Brielle, and Alayna; and step-great grandchildren, Calvin, and Sawyer; as well as, special family friend, Sue Wright.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm & 6:00pm - 8:00pm, at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. A Funeral Service with Military Honors, officiated by Glenn Aittama, will take place the following day, Friday, February 9, 2024 at 1:00pm, also at the funeral home. The family will welcome guests one hour prior to the start of the service. A Luncheon will take place at the Vytautas Aid Society, 1300 Hamilton Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, following the funeral service.

Memorial donations in Al’s honor may be made to Disabled American Veterans, The Wounded Warrior Project, or The American Heart Association.
