October 1, 1939 – August 26, 2020
Weldon was born in Farmersville, Texas to Benjamin and Corinne Murphy Burns. Shortly thereafter the family moved first to Oak Cliff and finally to Grand Prairie, Texas. It was in Grand Prairie that Weldon met the love of his life, Patsy Williams. The two were married shortly after graduation from Grand Prairie High School, class of 1958. Their marriage, one based on love, trust and respect, continued for 62 years until Weldon’s passing in 2020.
A career that began at Wyatt’s Food Store changed suddenly when Weldon was given the opportunity to develop his knowledge and skill with machinery. He spent the remainder of his working years as a machinist and mechanical engineer first for Recognition Equipment, then Currency Systems International, and finally Non-Linear Concepts, all companies that commended him for his work ethic and his dedication to the job. Due to his knowledge of the machines produced by these companies, Weldon travelled as an all-around trouble shooter servicing and correcting flaws in the equipment when necessary. These travels took him to fourteen foreign countries and twenty four U.S. states, travel that he never dreamed he would take. Injuries and the onset of Parkinson’s forced him into retirement.
While in the care of his wife Patsy and his son Ray, Weldon passed away at home in Grand Prairie as a result of the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s. Well-liked and respected by everyone who knew him, Weldon will truly be missed by his family, friends and colleagues who are scattered over the U.S., Australia, Western Europe, the Mid-East and South Africa.
Weldon was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin; his mother, Corinne; his brother, Glen Burns; one nephew; five aunts and six uncles including his mother’s brother, Audie L. Murphy.
Weldon is survived by his wife, Patsy; his son, Ray L. Burns of Grand Prairie; his son, Curtis Todd Burns of Lubbock, Texas; his sister, Charlene Barnes of Marble Falls, Texas; an aunt, Nadene Murphy Lokey of Princeton, Texas; four nephews; one niece and a host of cousins.
If you are ever on the island of Maui, listen for his spirit whispering “aloha” welcoming you to the place he would like to have called home.
