Sandra LaVonne Byers Hurlbut Rogers, 82, passed away February 13, 2018. Memorial Service: 12 Noon, Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Grand Prairie. She was born June 24, 1935 in Arkansas City, Kansas to parents, Fredrick William (Bill) Byers and Marcine LaVonne Norman Byers. She attended elementary schools in Ponca City, Blackwell and Enid, Oklahoma, Junior High and High School – Enid, OK, and graduated from Enid High School in 1953. Sandra was a member of American Legion sponsored by All Girl Drum and Bugle Corps. Played snare drum (9th grade – 12th grade) – the school band were state and national champions all four years. Upon graduation she worked for Bell Telephone as a customer service representative. She married Emannuel Edward Rogers on July 3, 1965. Sandra worked for a small company called TOCOM, which was a pioneer in the new medium of cable tv. She began as a Company Receptionist and became a Customer Service Liaison, coordinating installation of Tocom cable home security services. Sandra managed and coordinated company exhibits at state, national and international levels. She traveled to England, France, Germany, Alaska and Singapore on behalf of company. Sandra served as Executive Director of Fort Worth based Christian Food Bank “Loaves and Fishes” for 5 years. She became Receptionist and Executive Assistant to Canon Charles A. Hough III for Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth for five years. Sandra was also a Volunteer Coordinator and Thrift Stores Supervisor for Women’s Shelter – Brighter Tomorrows in Grand Prairie for five years. She retired in 2000 and moved to Charleston, South Carolina to be with her son, Gary and his family. Sandra fulfilled a lifelong dream and completed her bucket list on October 19, 2008 – when given a hot air balloon ride by her two sons, accompanied by her three best friends, Pat Little, Sherry White and Barbara Price. Survivors: sons, Mark L. Hurlbut and wife, Lisa; Gary D. Rogers Sr. and wife, Claudia; grandchildren, Gary Duane Rogers Jr., Christa Renee Rogers, Mark Lee Hurlbut Jr. and Staci Hurlbut Cooper; great grandchildren, Bryce Michael, Makayla Ava Michelle and Jaiden Duane Walthall, Makelan Dean Hurlbut and Marena Leeann Hurlbut, Kennedy Lynn and Tyler James Cooper; niece (like a daughter), Shari Deanne Money and her family; nephew, Frederick Dean Byers Jr.
