Ron was born on January 21, 1946 in Kerman, California to Eva & Arthur Higdon. He graduated from Harry Ells High School in Richmond, California. After graduating high school, Ron served in the United States Navy from December 30th, 1963 to January 13th, 1967 as a Interior Communications Electrician Fireman (ICFN). He served aboard the CVA-19 USS Hancock “The Fighting Hancock” from August 1964 to January of 1967. Ron proudly served his country and participated in the Vietnam War. Ron continued to serve his country working for the Department of Defense in the Civil Service as a Planner/Estimator for 38 years.
Ron will not be forgotten and he will be remembered for his kind hearted spirit and unwavering selflessness. He never failed to put his family and friends before his own needs no matter the level of personal sacrifice. However, he was no doormat either and was quick to call someone out on their nonsense (BS)! Ron had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick witted. His jokes never failed to keep us all in stitches. He was an expert in classic country music and thoroughly enjoyed listening to live music with a frosty cold beer. Ron was an intimidating force on the Billiards table and a threat to many of the casinos and horse tracks he visited. He was a man of few needs and even fewer wants. He was raised through hardship but fought hard and worked tirelessly to support and provide for his wife and family.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Stephanie Higdon. His siblings Bobby Higdon, Ruby Hennessey, David Higdon, John Higdon (Marilea), Linda Michel (Ed) and Linett Higdon. His children Stephen Higdon (Shannon), Troy Higdon, and Kristi Likes (Tye). His grandchildren Nathan Likes and Olivia Higdon.
Ron was predeceased by his parents Eva & Arthur Higdon and sister Betty Liston.
Ron will be sorely missed as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
A visitation for Ron will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050.
