January 4, 1960 – March 15, 2022
Ray Lynn Burns was born at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas to Weldon and Patsy Williams Burns. The family lived in Grand Prairie, Texas where Ray spent the first eighteen years of his life.
Ray attended South Grand Prairie High School. Following his graduation in 1978, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he worked in the field of electronics. Ray served his country for seven years at missile bases in Okinawa, Korea, and White Sands, New Mexico. He was honorably discharged in 1985.
After his release from the military, Ray earned his livelihood by working with electronics-related companies both in Texas and Georgia. His concern for the care of the elderly eventually led him to the field of nursing. He spent the last years of his working career as an LPN at the V.A. Hospital in Dallas as an assistant in surgical procedures. Ray retired in 2019 to help care for his father who was suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
Ray suffered a massive stroke on March 4, 2022 from which he never recovered. He passed away on March 15 while a patient at Arlington Memorial Hospital. Ray is survived by his mother, Patsy, his brother Curtis Todd Burns of Lubbock, Texas, two aunts: Charlene Barnes of Marble Falls, Texas and Jenell Powell of Tyler, Texas, one great-aunt Nadene Murphy Lokey of Princeton, Texas, and a host of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Weldon, his paternal grandparents Benjamin and Corinne Murphy Burns, his maternal grandparents Oliver and Oneta White Williams, his uncle Glen Burns, and his favorite great-uncle Audie L. Murphy.
Apart from care and devotion to the sick and elderly, Ray may best be remembered for his love of hunting and fishing. Those who knew him can be assured that he is now mapping out all of the best hunting and fishing spots in the Great Hereafter.
At this time no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, Patsy has requested that donations in memory of Ray Burns, brother of Curtis Todd Burns, be sent to:
