Melvin Darnell McPhearson

Melvin McPhearson, 69, of Grand Prairie, Texas, finished his journey on January 6, 2023. He was born in Pleasant Grove, Mississippi on April 20, 1953. Melvin graduated from Westside High in Gary, Indiana before enlisting in the United States Air Force.

He married the love of his life, Carolyne McPhearson, on September 30, 1978. Together they built a beautiful life that they enjoyed across multiple states and countries.

Melvin had a twenty-year career as a Technical Sergeant (TSgt) in the United States Airforce as an airplane electrician, followed by a fifteen-year career with the Grand Prairie, Texas Police Department as a Corrections Officer.

Melvin had a passion for Music, Fishing, Poetry, Photography, and Cooking, as well as Cowboy, Action, and Kung Fu movies. He also loved to work on his Volkswagen Bug and ride his motorcycle with his baby brother. His family was the highlight of his life and he loved spending time with them while grilling out, especially on the holidays.

Melvin is survived by his mother Edna Hazelett, wife Carolyne McPhearson, his children Rickie Sheppard (Jennifer), Kedrian McPhearson (Larissa), Chandra McPhearson, his grandchildren Shayla Sheppard, Darien Sheppard, Niviah Sheppard, Arianna Beck, Lathan McPhearson, Easton McPhearson, Koa Sanders, great-grandchildren Suniyah Hill, Kash Holmes, Daisy Ware, his siblings Willie Hazelett, Titus Hazelett, Sonya Hazelett, Patrick Hazelett, Cordell Hazelett, Tammie Bullock (Scott), Eddie McPherson (Robin), Janell McPherson, Johnny McPherson, Dennis McPherson and Kenny McPherson and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father John Hazelett and brother Terry McPherson.

A visitation for Melvin will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Dallas First Church, 5606 W Illinois Ave, Dallas, TX 75211, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.

A committal service will occur Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
