Mary was born on January 28, 1915, in Starkville, Mississippi. She was raised by two loving parents, Stark and Ida Outlaw. At an early age, Mary accepted Jehovah and was a faithful member of her church until her passing. On November 11, 1952, Mary married Gordie G. Slade in South Bend, Indiana. Upon marriage, Mary was a very devoted and loving wife who traveled the country and supported her husband during his successful military career.
Throughout her life, Mary was not average by any means – she was perfection. From teaching herself at the age of 60 how to sew and redesign her outfits to preparing home cooked meals for her family, everything was perfect. Besides from being a perfectionist, Mary was a pure diva. Not a day went by that she ensured that everything she would wear was anything less than fashionable. Not only the outfit, but her hair, nails, makeup - everything was well kept. For those who knew Mary, would know that she was extremely competitive. She enjoyed card games, dominos, bingo, and Wii Basketball. She was an avid basketball fan and was a Kobe Bryant supporter. Most of all, Mary was friend to all. She had a gentle heart and provided the love and support that was needed to her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memories include two devoted children: Gordie Slade Holt and wife Shirley, and Sally R. Brown and husband Harold; eight grandchildren: Cynthia Holt, Gordie Bernard Holt, Terrence Holt and wife Valerie, Dawn Brown, Kimberly Kertis and husband Frank, Harold C. Brown III and wife Virginia, Rachel Willis, and Marvie Lynn Bethel; 21 great grandchildren; 26 great-great grandchildren and her loving nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, her parents, and a daughter, Madie Bethel.
