Mark William Ramsey passed away peacefully, March 21, 2017. Mark may not have wanted it known, but he died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctors’ orders, and raising hell for more than six decades. Every single night, and often all night, he ripped out a solo guitar concert -- for no one but himself – always promising to make a recording for all of his fans, which he never quite accomplished. While he was always extremely happy to lecture to any interested audience on the history of the Incas, Scythians, Greeks, Egyptians or any other civilization that ever lived -- he mostly enjoyed booze, guns, computer gaming, and younger women until the day he died.
Mark William Ramsey was born in Dallas, Texas December 6, 1949 to Grand Prairie High School sweethearts, Sarah Maxine Elmore and Carl William Ramsey. He was a graduate of Grand Prairie High School in 1968. He continued his education at North Texas State University where he earned a degree in Education graduating Magna Cum Laude.
An academic scholar, Mark was a member of the Phi Alpha Theta and Alpha Chi honorary fraternities.
After North Texas, Mark entered his chosen profession as a high school and middle school teacher, and later a truant officer with the Grand Prairie Independent School District for over thirty years, and lasting until this past year.
Mark is survived by one son, James Trevor, his younger brother, Brent Elmore Ramsey of Stamford, CT, two nephews, Brad Allen “B.A.” Ramsey of Dallas, TX, and William Robert Anderson Ramsey of Stamford, great-niece, Sommer Shea Ramsey of Houston, TX, and great-great nephew, Calvin Nicholas House, along with many special cousins.
