In her early childhood years, she lived in several towns in Texas including, Wichita Falls, Dennison, Sulfur Springs, and Fort Worth. From 5th grade on, she grew up in Olney, Texas, graduating from high school there in 1945.
She began her college years at Abilene Christian College where she met her husband, Stanley Singleton. She transferred to North Texas State University after her freshman year, and graduated 2 years later with a degree in education.
She married Stanley Singleton in 1948 and supported him in her role as preacher’s wife for a number of years, living in Valley View, Sanger, Denton, Kenedy, and Grand Prairie. At that point she agreed to support her husband as a missionary’s wife in Riverton, Wyoming and Olympia, Washington. After 6 years in the Northwest, Joyce and Stanley returned to Grand Prairie. Two years later, in 1966, she decided to begin her teaching career. Joyce taught 4th grade for the entirety of her career and retired from teaching in 1988.
Joyce was a devoted wife to her husband and a faithful Christian as a member of the Burbank Gardens Church of Christ and the Freetown Road Church of Christ in Grand Prairie. She and Stanley lived in Grand Prairie for 59 years. The last two and a half years of her life were in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Singleton, and her grandson Jordan Singleton. She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses: Iris and husband Ronald Benedick of Ardmore, OK, David Singleton and wife Delena of Fort Worth, TX, and Mark Singleton and wife Sarah of Edmond, OK; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jered Benedick and wife Tammy of Belton, TX, Matthew Benedick and wife Ruth of Ardmore, OK, Alexa Singleton of Fort Worth, TX, Luke Hunsaker of Edmond, OK, Celeste and husband Matthew Northam of Oklahoma City, OK, and Chloe Singleton of Edmond, OK,; five great grandchildren, Tyler and Jenna Kate Benedick, Molly and Micah Benedick, and Preslee Singleton.
She was 95 and now rests in the presence of Jesus, whom she faithfully served all her life.
