John Harvey Stephens, age 92, of Arlington, Texas went to be with his Lord, at home, on Saturday, October 1, 2022 with hospice nurses and loved ones at his bedside, following a long battle with bad health.
John Harvey Stephens was born April 23, 1930 in Taylor Town, Texas to Beaulah and Harvey Stephens. He married Shirley Ann Jay in June 1952 after locating in Grand Prairie and they shared seventy years of married life.
John was a long time employee of the City of Grand Prairie as a foreman for the water and sewer department. Before and after retirement, John enjoyed hunting, fishing and as he laughingly stated, holding down his recliner while watching Gunsmoke. He adored family get togethers and hosted many of them. The greatest of almost all loves was his great-granddaughter, Nevaeh, who he referred to as "the baby."
This year on Father's Day, John rededicated his life to God and began a brief season of attending church at Calvary Family Worship.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; both parents; three sisters, Helen Moore, Naomi Sugg and Mayerene Moore; and granddaughter, Jennifer Burgess.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Vanloon, Charlotte Hammonds (Paul), Deborah Humphreys (Billy) and Errol Stephens (Teresa); sisters, Ann Cannon and Polly Palmer (Nick); grandchildren, Amy Hansbro (Boyd), Erica Lee (Brett) Paula Hammonds and John Hammonds; great-grandchildren, Tessa Hansbro, Boyd Hansbro, Jr. (Ameeka), Jackson Hansbro, John Schickling, Meredith Burgess and Nevaeh Stanley.
