

She grew up in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas, TX as a child with her family and shared many stories about her childhood with her family. Her stories were of fishing at Bachman Lake; swimming in Turtle Creek; shopping, eating & movies at places in Downtown Dallas in the 1940s; what it was like at home while her Dad served in the US Navy overseas during WW2; watching her Dad coach a young men's soccer team and play at Reverchon Park in the late 1940s; walking, catching McKinney Ave Trolley and bus by herself as a young girl to visit and spend a few nights with her maternal grandparents who lived in East Dallas near Fair Park then, fighting her sister's fights for her as a child if needed.
She graduated from North Dallas High School in 1950. Graduated from Irving Beauty Academy and received her license which she used to become a facialist at various retail stores in the DFW area including Dillard's, JCPenney, Marshall Fields and Sanger Harris. During her career of 30 yrs in the beauty industry, she met Adrien Arpel & Pierre Cardin who were well known then. She even danced with Pierre Cardin because she had won a cosmetics sales contest with a trip to Paris, France as a prize at Sanger Harris.
She was a good and loyal friend to many over the years. JoAnn was very close to both of her parents and her younger sister, Sandra, until they passed before her. All thanks to a blind date she married to Howard on September 21, 1951 and they remained in love for 64 yrs until he passed at 88 yrs in 2015.
When she was a younger woman, she was a member of Circle I Square Dance Club in Irving, TX in the 1970s. Back then, there would be many visits to Lee Park Recreation Center in Irving, TX for dancing and socializing. Back then, she was the Vice President of it while her husband, Howard, was President. She loved to sew and made many of her square dance outfits.
They started their married life in Dallas. Later they bought a house in Irving in 1955 where they raised four sons. After she retired in 1996, she enjoyed spending time with her family and travelling to places including Orlando, FL; Branson, MO; Las Vegas, NV and Reno, NV.
While her four sons were children at home, she was known for how loud and the range of her whistling when she called them home while they were outside. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, known as MaMaw "aka Mrs. Peacock". The Naylor family home was the hang out for neighborhood kids to be invited to our birthday parties, ride bicycles, play street football, play basketball in the back yard, military zip line, club house, tree house, play house and an above ground pool with the sons wrestling in it. They had many different pets that she put up with including birds, cats, chickens, dogs, fish, goat, horse visits sometimes, pigeons, rabbits and turtles.
JoAnn held the family together even on trips and vacations which included boating and camping at area lakes like Dallas, Grapevine, Northlake & Tawakoni; trips to Galveston, Austin, San Antonio and Turner Falls in OK. She was involved with her four sons' activities and education as children such as Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, science projects and newspaper routes. She and Steve, her oldest son, won a Irving Daily News, subscription, sales com-petition in the late 1950s. The prize was a trip to a new theme park called Disneyland in CA. She balanced loving her four sons while at the same time giving discipline to them as needed.
She loved her husband, four sons and family very much until her passing. She loved red as a color, geraniums, roses and White Diamonds was her favorite perfume. She also loved to get her hair and nails done to keep up her appearance. During the holidays, she was known for making chocolate cakes, pies and chess pie. She enjoyed eating at restaurants including Angelos, El Fenix, Joe's Coffee Shop, McDonalds, Olive Garden and Spring Creek BBQ in Irving, TX. JoAnn enjoyed watching PBS British comedies, Fox News, RFD and Jimmy Kimmel. An avid reader of the Dallas Morning News and National Enquirer she liked drinking orange juice, chocolate milk or diet coke. She was a realist about living life. Had a wonderful sense of humor and a strong faith.
She suffered for many years with numerous, chronic, health problems. She saw many doctors, stays at Baylor Irving, nursing home rehab, home health care, OT, PT, speech therapy in Irving, TX over many years. Her son, Paul, was her full time, live in, caregiver for many years. He was also, at the same time, doing the same for Howard, his Dad, for many years until his passing in 2015.
She was the constant, glue and rock that held our family together through all of the years. Mom & Mamaw, Rest Well with Dad! You are Forever in Heaven with the Angels & God, Now. We Thank You For Everything That You Did For ALL Of Us. Job Well Done, Mom & Mamaw! We Will Always Love, Miss & Remember You! We'll ALL Be Together As A Family Again, Soon! RIP Mom & Mamaw!
She is survived by four sons: Steve Naylor (Janie), David Naylor (Gena), Brian Naylor (Debbie), Paul Naylor; ten grandchildren: Amy Naylor (Glen), Randy Naylor, Joshua Naylor (Marla), Rebecca Dykes (Kyle), Justin Naylor (Kristen), Cody Naylor (Stephanie), Jamee Sutton, Aaron Duboise (Jacie), Whitley Humphries, Ashlee Cody (Kenneth); twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, Braylon; two nephews and four feral cats.
