James “Jim” E. Hall, Jr. age 78, a resident of Grand Prairie, Texas for the last 56 years, passed away September 23, 2023. He was born December 21, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas to Reverend James E. Hall, Sr. and Agnes (Bowsher) Hall. On February 29, 1980, Jim married Mary L. Roberts in Grand Prairie, Texas, who preceded him in death in 2015.
Jim enlisted in the United States Navy in February of 1964 and proudly served his country as Petty Officer 2nd Class in Aviation and Electronics when he was released from active duty in August of 1967. He entered the Texas Air National Guard June of 1983 and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received many commendations and medals for his dedication and service.
He was a lifetime member of the Friends of the Smithsonian, the National Guard Association of Texas, the Texas Wood Carver’s Guild, the National Rifle Association, the U.S. Naval Institute, long-time member of the Grand Prairie Shooting Club, a Gopher Band Booster, served as the Scout Master of Troop 506, Boy Scouts of America and completed the Wood Badge Course, and a graduate of the Grand Prairie Citizens Police Academy.
He was retired from LTV Aerospace and Defense Company and Heritage Aviation Ltd where he enjoyed a long career in aviation. He spent his early retirement years caring for his wife, Mary who was suffering from Parkinson's and he was a model of love and devotion as he spent every single day with her until she passed away.
His family will always fondly remember his award-winning carvings and incredibly detailed wooden model ships and his story-telling. He was a historian of wars and warcraft and enjoyed reading and discussing the finer points of history. Over his lifetime, he enjoyed camping, shooting, and fishing.
Family was always his central focus. He was a very involved father in his childrens’ lives and supported all of their endeavors and regularly reached out and contacted everyone on Facetime to visit and see everyone. He doted on his grandchildren and great grandchildren; he masterfully rocked them to sleep and played exciting games of peek-a-boo. He will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his beloved children, Crystal (Hall) and husband Billy Immenhauser of Palacios, Texas; Todd and wife, Malinda Hall of Yadkinville, North Carolina; Pollyann (Hall) Dutterer of China Grove, North Carolina; Cliff and wife, Angelia Williams, of Fort Worth; Bryan and wife, Melissa Williams, of Grand Prairie, 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his sister, Nancy Wolfe of Cleburne, Texas to whom he was very close, by his special neighbors and longtime friends, Sandy and Elaine Hale, and by precious nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son: Eddie Hall.
