Howard D Naylor

Howard Dixie Naylor, 88, passed away Irving, TX on October 22, 2015. He was born on his maternal grandparent’s farm in Aubrey, TX on May 5, 1927 to Carl and Ruby Naylor who had three sons and one daughter. He lived on the farm till he was 7 years old. From 1934 to 1938 he lived in Slaton, TX where his family farmed.

From 1938 to 1951, he lived in Grand Prairie, Texas where he attended First Baptist Church and Grand Prairie High School where he played football. He also attended Draughon’s Business College in Dallas, where he met JoAnn Milam. They were married on September 21, 1951 in Dallas at the North Dallas Baptist Church and they lived in Dallas, later they bought a Irving where they raised four sons. Howard was a dispatcher for Jack Cooper Transport Co., Inc. in Arlington for 33 years before he retired. In WWII, he was a seaman in the US Navy, working as a cook on a sub-chaser for four months, a deck hand on a tug boat for three months, he also toured places such as Guam, Hawaii and Saipan. He enjoyed woodworking and built things, including a playhouse, for his children all from scrap wood. Howard was an amazing family man, attending his sons sports events, he liked to garden, fish, hunt and go crawfishing with his sons on Highway 183 in Irving. Howard was a cut-up and practical jokester. He was a member of Circle I Square Dancing Club where he was president and attended Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, Texas.Howard is preceded in death by his mother; Ruby May Thomas Naylor; father, Carl Herbert Naylor; brother, Carl Grady Naylor.He is survived by his wife of 64 years, JoAnn Naylor; four sons: Steve Naylor (Janie), David Naylor (Gena), Brian Naylor (Debbie), Paul Naylor; ten grandchildren: Amy Naylor, Randy Naylor, Joshua Naylor (Marla), Rebecca Dykes (Kyle), Justin Naylor (Kristen), Cody Naylor (Stephanie), Jamee Sutton, Aaron Duboise (Jacie), Whitley Humphries, Ashlee Huey; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Ed Naylor (Jeane) and sister, Eloise Fallis.
