Beloved Father, Harold Eldon “Joe” Farmer passed into Heaven on Tuesday, Jan. 31st, in Grapevine, Texas. The long time Grand Prairie resident was reunited with his lifetime sweetheart and wife, LeBerta.
Harold, nicknamed “Little Joe” by his father, was born in Grassy, Missouri on February 25, 1931 to Agnes Lucinda Cooper Farmer and Charles Earl Farmer. He grew on his parent’s Glen Allen, Mo. farm and assisted in their country grocery store. At the tender age of thirteen “little Joe” started his truck driving career, hauling logs from the family sawmill.
He graduated from Zalma High School in Zalma, Mo., where he was voted “Most Handsome” and, where he met the love of his life, beautiful Rachel LeBerta Duniphan. On Valentine’s Day 1949, they eloped to Pickett, Arkansas, and became united as husband and wife until Bertie’s passing in May of 2008.
Harold, a war veteran, loved America and was a true patriot. He proudly wore his Korean War Cap, showing his service to our country. He joined the Army in 1950 and served in the Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean War. Harold retired from Cooper Company and United Transport of Arlington, Texas, with over fifty years of hauling automobiles across the country. He received several driving awards for his excellence in safe driving and service. He had attended Calvary Temple Church of Irving Texas. Upon retirement, he and LeBerta purchased their dream home at Cedar Creek Lake, in Gun Barrel City, Texas, where you could find him fishing on the boat dock in his swim trunks and cowboy boots. He loved spending time, fishing, swimming or BBQing with his precious grandchildren, Kimi, Cody, Colt and Dylan. He also loved spending time in Hawaii and traveling to Hong Kong. Harold loved Elvis, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Dolly Pardon and many country stars. Even tho’ Harold was raised in southeast Missouri, he was a proud Texan and considered Texas his home. The welcome Farmer home was always filled with many friends and family members. He was currently residing in the Mountain Creek Retirement Community in Grand Prairie, Texas. Harold was preceded in passing is his beloved wife, LeBerta Duniphan Farmer; parents, Earl and Agnes Farmer; and brother Chester Matthews. We have lost a large piece of our hearts but comforted by knowing that Dad is reunited in Heaven with our precious Mother. One of his last words spoken to his daughter Kela was that he was so happy that his three daughters were with him and that they were “his diamonds”.
