Charles Wallace McFail

Arlington, Texas — Charles McFail, 77, died Saturday, January 25 following a long illness. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend whose soul left this earth to celebrate his new birthday with God.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia (Patti); his sons and daughters, Timothy and daughter-in-law Renée of Atlanta, David, and Meghan; granddaughters, Áine and Ciara; wonderful brothers and sisters-in law, Dean and Dory of Colorado, Gene and Kathleen of Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews, Leah, Diana, Bridget, Michael, Justin, and great-nephew, Oryn; and many close friends.

Charlie (Chuck) was born on March 24, 1942 in Brookville, PA. He grew up in one of five houses in Queen, PA in Forest County. He graduated from West Forest High School in Tionesta, PA and used money he earned growing and selling corn to enroll at Penn State University. During his junior year he interned with Link Aviation in Binghamton, NY. He graduated in 1964 with a Bachelors in Industrial Engineering and was hired by the same company where he worked for 40 years. While working he earned an MBA. He held numerous positions during his career:

In Binghamton he enjoyed bowling with his wife and work friends every other Friday night. He also loved golfing with his friends in New York as well as Texas. He loved working outside, especially gardening. He was the committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 202 for 15 years in Endicott, NY. He was treasurer of his Home Owner’s Association. A big part of his life was loyalty to his alma mater, PSU. He drove his family to dozens of games in State College and enjoyed countless hours of tailgating.

Traveling was a passion. While his children were growing up they got to travel a lot. Many of them were camping trips using tents and a pop-up camper. He enjoyed many days using the family’s small sailboat. In retirement he happily traveled throughout the world with his wife, Patti.

He was a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church in Arlington. His generous spirit lended well to his time with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also a member of the Tuesday Guys doing work around the church, and St. Joseph’s Men’s Club.

We are blessed and thankful for Ruth Shields, his caregiver of four years. We also want to thank his caregivers at Avalon Memory Care in Arlington as well as Bristol Hospice.

Most of all he lived a life of love, both receiving and giving. He worked hard and loved hard.

In lieu of flowers, if you’d like to make a donation in Charles’ name we suggest the St. Joseph’s St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice. As a family we want to thank every one of our many friends through the years and especially now, for this time, for being with us.

The funeral will be Thursday, February 20 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1927 SW Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington, 76017. He will be interred at a later date to be announced in Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY. The family will receive visitors at 9am in the Narthex of the church. Reciting the rosary will start at 10:30 and the funeral mass will start at 11am with lunch to follow.
