Charlene Ayers, age 85 of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2021 at her home with her family at her side. She was born on March 21, 1936 in Levelland, Texas, the daughter of Loy Reese and Beulah Dodson Reese.
Charlene grew up in the panhandle of Texas, where she married Emmett Gillaspy at the age of 17. Charlene was a young widow with three children to raise. She was a strong and independent woman who went into cosmetology and owned her own hair salon. Charlene had a great sense of humor and later owned her own comedy club. In her spare time, she studied metaphysics, meditation, Rosicrucianism. She participated in many studies and became an ordained minister and a clinical hypno therapist. She loved helping the well-being of others. Charlene’s greatest joy was the time she spent with her family, all of whom will miss her.
Charlene is survived by her daughter Jackie Pallett and husband Rick; grandchildren Robert Jenkins and wife Maria, Dewayne Lewis and wife Brandy, Brandy Aglugub and husband Ernie, Emmett Gillaspy Jr., Anna Jorgenson and husband Dane, April Smith, Ryan Gillaspy, and Jessica Gillaspy; 18 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Emmett Gillaspy, sons Bobby Gillaspy and Donny Gillaspy.
A celebration of Charlene’s life will be at 4:00pm on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home, 2951 S. Belt Line Road, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052.
