Albert Dwain Farr passed away December 27, 2015. He was born June 27, 1933 in Mansfield, Texas to Elbert Wayne and Annie Birtres Farr. Dwain grew up in Mansfield, Texas where his family owned the Farr Best Theater since 1917. He graduated from Mansfield High School in 1951 and enlisted in the US Navy. He served during the Korean War in several locations such as China, Korea, Japan and The Philippians. He was discharged from Treasure Island, Ca. When he returned to Texas, he was introduced to Nancy Burleson by her sister at a drive-in restaurant. They were married June 14, 1958 and Dwain began working in the engineering field, working on projects that included the lighting for the DFW and Grand Prairie airports. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Mansfield Fire Department. Dwain changed careers in 1975 to become a teacher, and then brought his family to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1976. He graduated from East Texas State University in 1980 with his Bachelors of Art Degree. After serving 19 years with Grand Prairie ISD, Dwain retired from teaching in 1995. Dwain has been a member of Inglewood Baptist Church since 1976. He served as a deacon, ministry to Shut-In, served refreshments for VBS and played a king during the living Christmas. He was also a member of Korean War Veterans Association and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, traveling and woodwork. His favorite places to travel were Alaska and their cabin getaway in Colorado. Dwain was a caring, giving man who had a dry sense of humor and enjoyed being a jokester. He was noted for always wearing a smile and for having sparkly eyes. Dwain is preceded in death by his mother Annie Birtres Oliver Farr, father Elbert Wayne Farr and brother Bobby Farr. He is survived by his wife Nancy Farr; sons Tracy Farr and his wife, Susan; Scott Farr and his wife, Kandy; grandchildren: Keri Dean and her husband, Kris; Andrew Farr, Kassie Farr, Robert Farr, Rebecca Farr; great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Dean, Damian Dean; brother Richard Farr and his wife, Martha; sister-in-law Chris Farr; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.In lieu of flowers please make donations to Pregnancy Resource Center of Grand Prairie or General Walton H Walker Chapter 215 Korean War Veterans Association.
