and Mary Lela Adair Barnes.
Al grew up in Alabama and graduated from Lamar County High School. After graduation his family moved to Mississippi where he met Nell Bird. They were married July 22, 1950 and moved to Illinois. He was drafted into the US Army February 26, 1952. He served his 2 years in San Antonio, Texas at Fort Sam Houston and was discharged April 1, 1954.
Al and Nell lived in several states before settling in Grand Prairie, Texas in 1956. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church since 1956 and worked as a flight instructor and Aircraft salesman for Beech Aircraft. He enjoyed fishing and flying. Al had a pilot license, both private and commercial, a flight instructors license and could perform check rides.
Al was a gentle, calm man who never met a stranger. He was known for his firm handshake and being full of the spirit. He was always happy and willing to help others. His greatest passion was Christ and his family.
Al is preceded in death by his parents,
3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Nell Barnes; children Lore Barnes, Mark Barnes and his wife, Lisa; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
