Walter B Lemon

Colorado. He was born May 6, 1942, to Walter B Lemon Jr. and Roberta Ann Morgan Lemon in Rifle, Co.

He grew up on Holmes Mesa in Garfield County ranching with his family. He attended Grand Valley

Schools until finishing his education at Rifle High School. On December 27, 1964, he married Nancy Ruth

Lawson in Rifle, Co. He earned a Business Administration Degree at Northwestern State College in

Natchitoches, LA.

Walter started his professional career in Minden, LA, as a Personal representative in an ammunition plant

manufacturing munitions for the Vietnam War and training military forces to defend America. The Equal

Employment Opportunity Commission was enacted and he was involved in developing procedures and

protocols to protect the civil rights of all employees.

He was a personnel and safety director at a steel foundry in Denver, Colorado manufacturing metal

castings for the railroad to transport passengers to all areas of the US. The Occupational Safety and

Health Administration was enacted and again he was involved in developing procedures and protocols for

employees’ safety.

He was a carpenter with School District 51 for 27 years, helping maintain safe schools for students and

others in the community. As one would expect, he was a master wood craftsman and someone who loved

the outdoors, enjoying both hunting and fishing.

Walter was a qualified consultant for the Asbestos Abatement Program and inspected businesses

throughout Western Colorado.

His greatest blessing was being a Dad, or Gramps as he was known in his later years. Family was his

priority. He didn’t miss many ball games or livestock shows; he was even spotted at a few art shows

and theatrical performances. He purchased many chocolate bars, buckets of popcorn, and packets of

raffle tickets. He was always good for a sweet treat after the event.

Walter touched the lives of many young people as a 4-H Leader, Cub Scout Master, Webelo Leader, and

Boy Scout Troop Committee Chairman. Walter spent many years volunteering through the International

Lions Club Organization at every level. He served on the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank Board and

Leader Dogs for the Blind. Locally he helped organize an Easter egg hunt for the vision-impaired

population. He worked to ensure every 8th grader had access to constitution booklets of the U.S.

Government.

He advocated for changes to encourage younger members to join a Lions Club. He

modeled their motto: WE SERVE!

He had a lifetime case of FOMA…. Fear of Missing Out!!!

Walter or Ben as he was known by many, is survived by his wife Nancy. Three children: W.B. “Benjie”

(Laurie) Lemon IV., Davina Brower, Matthew (Tara) Lemon. Ten Grands: Kallie Lemon, Zac Brower,

Amanda (Jeff) Long, Seandra (Josh Van Setter) Brower. Naomi Lemon, Cora Lemon, Elsie Lemon,

Abigail Lemon, Henry Lemon, Penelope Lemon. Two Great-grands: Owen Long and Marceline Brower

(deceased).

Services are scheduled for Monday, October 21, at 10:30 A.M. at Callahan Edfast followed by a

Celebration of Life with Pie and Ice Cream. Private interment at Orchard Mesa Cemetery
