Virginia attended Riverside School and Grand Junction Junior High. She worked on various farms with her mother and siblings while her father worked for the Rio Grande Railroad. Her family settled in the El Poso neighborhood, where her parents and siblings led neighbors in working together to renovate their homes and beautify the neighborhood as a whole. Most of her siblings remained in El Poso with their families.
She met her husband, John Trujillo, who also lived in the neighborhood. John asked Virginia's parents for her hand in marriage and the couple wed on 7/21/56. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together. The couple began their family with the birth of Margaret and followed with Victor, Juanita and Dolores. It was not uncommon for Virginia and John to open their home to family and friends in need; she will always cherish her "adopted children" being Alma (Garduno) Bera and Joseph Bera.
Virginia was baptized a Jehovah Witness. She worked as a caregiver in her later years before retiring. Virginia loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed having family and friends share an old fashion potluck gathering, while listening to Mexican music and closing down the street for all to dance. Virginia enjoyed being the connector of her extended family. She was known to welcome conversations anytime anywhere. While Virginia was not able to physically visit family and friends she would call everyone and keep those strong connections, with many coming to her home.
Virginia is survived by her husband John; siblings Marcia (Frank) Cordova and Frank (Julia deceased) Maldonado; children, Linda (Alfonso) Martinez (Salt Lake City), Juanita and Dolores (Dan) Trujillo and Richard Zamora (Fruita); grandchildren, John Derrick Brave Eagle Trujillo (Darion Weybright), Christopher and Jazmine Trujillo; and great grandchildren John Derrick Brave Eagle Trujillo II and sister Anevay; She is preceded in death by her daughter Margaret and son Victor.
A service celebrating Virginia's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary; the viewing will take place on Monday, November 12, 2018 (5 p.m.-7 p.m.) There will be a dinner (beginning at 2pm) at the Mesa County Fairgrounds Community Building located at 2785 US-50. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Hope West at hopewestco.org.
