Susan Herrera went to be with her Lord and Savior in heaven on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at her home in Grand Junction, after her long courageous battle with cancer. She was a warrior, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many.
Susan was born on August 1, 1961 to Julio Baracosa and Primitiva Baracosa in Fairfield, CA. On October 11th 1980 Susan married Louie Herrera at Travis AFB in Fairfield, CA. After many years of supporting and standing by her husband throughout his U.S. Air Force career, and following Louie’s retirement from the Air Force they moved their family from California to Grand Junction Colorado where they continued to raise their three children, Jennifer, Pamela and Brandon. Susan was married to her sweetheart for 43 years.
Susan worked many years as a Bank Teller. She worked in Mammography at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center for over 16 years serving the countless women of the Grand Valley. She also served our Veterans as a Medical Support Assistant at the Grand Junction Veterans Medical Center where she retired from.
Susan enjoyed spending time with her family and had many special moments with her grandchildren. She loved teaching them how to cook, bake, crochet, and how to play her favorite card games. She enjoyed helping others and also volunteering her time at her Church, Junction Community Church.
Susan left a legacy of faith, friends and family: her loving husband Louie, a son, Brandon (Reyna) Herrera of Aurora, CO, daughters, Pamela (Danny) Arellano of Clifton, CO, and Jennifer Herrera of Grand Junction, CO. She also leaves behind a brother, Frank (JoAnne) Baracosa of White City, OR, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, and many close friends and family. These people can attest to the impact she had on this world, and what a strong person and steadfast woman of God she was. Susan taught us so much about love, trust, friendship and Hope. Her gentle touch remains upon the hearts of those who loved her best. She will be greatly missed here on earth.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her brothers; Randy Baracosa and Steve Baracosa.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:30 PM, Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the Canyon View Vineyard Church followed by a committal service at 3:00 PM, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
