Born January 27, 1934 in Los Angeles, California to Lois and Charles Nightingale. She attended 1st-8th grade in Englewood Colorado and graduated from Paonia high School in 1951.
On January 16, 1954 Shirley married William D. Joyner and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. That union welcomed three sons, David, Alan, and Berry.
In 1974, the Family moved to Carbondale Colorado and Shirley worked as the school cafeteria manager for Carbondale Elementary, Middle and high school, serving 540 students daily. She was a member of the Rebekah vodge and volunteered at the Near New Store. Shirley enjoyed cooking, crocheting, fishing, and RV’ing. She loved spending time with family and friends. In 2004, Shirley and Bill moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. After retiring, they enjoyed sending the winters in Yuma, Arizona.
Shirley is survived by her husband, William, son David (Sandy), grandchildren David Jr., Derek, Richard (Lisa), George, 4 great grandchildren, and sister Edna Smith, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Lois and Charles Nightingale. Sons Alan and Berry, siblings Tom Nightingale, Leonard (Tiny) Nightingale, and Barbara Wildt.
A funeral service for Shirley will be held Monday, May 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3076 E 1/2 Rd, Grand Junction, CO 81504. Following the funeral service will be a burial following reception at 2:30 PM at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 40571 O Rd, Paonia, CO 81428.
