(Moosman) Flannery. She moved to Grand Junction with her parents in 1926. Her father was founder of Flannery
Electric and Automotive Services. She was a graduate of Grand Junction High School and attended Mesa Jr. College.
She married her Palisade sweetheart, Albert Phillips, Jr. on August 9, 1942 in Grand Junction, Colorado. They lived at
Palisade where Albert worked in the coal mines until 1944 when they moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming. In 1945 they
moved back to Palisade, Colorado to raise fruit and in 1946 they doubled the family with twins. In 1948 they moved to a
ranch on Carr Creek northwest of DeBeque, Co to raise cattle. They purchased a ranch on Roan Creek in 1950 to raise
cattle, sheep and hay. There Ruth was a 4-H leader for at least 7 years. Ruth loved to sing and play the piano. She was
instrumental in establishing a Sunday School on Roan Creek as well as bi-weekly Monday night church services led by
students of Intermountain Bible College. This led to a big baptismal service in Road Creek for the whole family and
those of the church family. Sunday School started meeting in the bunk house on our ranch. When the bunk house was
outgrown, Sunday School was moved to the abandoned school next to the Community Hall. The Intermountain Bible
College students would come for one or two weeks in the summer to hold Vacation Bible School at the Community Hall
for anyone who wanted to come from DeBeque and the area. Erskine Scates would pick up kids in DeBeque and all the
way up the creek to the community Hall. They used to say he drove like the Lord was with him and the devil was after
him. We just had gravel roads back then. Ruth and Albert moved their family back to Palisade in 1962. Ruth taught
piano lessons in DeBeque and in Palisade. They were members of Palisade Christian Church, Orchard Mesa Christian
Church and Clifton Christian Church. At Palisade Christian Church, mom served as an organist and/or pianist. At times,
she was in charge of the music and helped direct the choir. She was an accomplished artist as well. She taught art
classes and helped start Palisade Art Lovers. She was a member of Palisade Order of Eastern Star and PEO. Ruth and
Albert moved to a home on Country Road in Grand Junction in 2005. Through their 67 years of marriage, their home
was always open to friends and family. Ruth moved to the Atrium July 14,2012 and eventually to Palisade Care Center
where she went to be with her Lord on November 23,2014. Her wish was to be cremated. Ruth was preceded in death
by her husband, Albert; her parents, two brothers and two sisters-in-law. She is survived by her children -a son and
daughter-in-law, Carl and Jan Phillips of Palisade, Colorado and a daughter and son-in-law Carla and Garth Gardner of
Grand Junction, Colorado; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. There will be a celebration of Ruth's life on
Saturday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the old sanctuary of Clifton Christian Church, 3240 1-70 Business Loop, Clifton, Co
81520. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name can be made to either Clifton Christian Church or Palisade
Christian Church.
