As the years went by I kept saying that I have to check in with Ron Drake. Too many times we learn too late what we should have done. I will remember many pleasant times with Ron and his family and am sad.
Some day I hope to visit Grand Junction and catch up.
Meanwhile, my best sympathies to all who have lost a unique individual.

Well, I'm saddened by Ron's passing, but I know he enjoyed life and made the most of it.  

Ron provided me a warm welcome to Boulder and mountaineering.  From bouldering on Flagstaff (where he pioneered the climbing use of ripple-sole shoes) to a few 14ers to the Utah desert and canyons, we covered a lot of country together.  We enjoyed lots of climbs and hikes in the Indian Peaks, Meeker, and shared a few rescue missions. 

We were each other's best man at our respective first weddings and enjoyed each other's company for many years. Family bridge nights at their place in Sedalia and snowy shopping during the infamous '82   blizzard, warm when they came up to Thornton for cards and dinner, and spending the night when it was too deep to drive back to Sedalia.  

His last home at the foot of the sandstone cliffs of The Monument was his permanent commitment to the joys of hiking the trails and history of the hills.
