Roger D. Smith passed away June 18, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital, he was 72. Roger was born on May 11, 1938 in Grand Junction from the union of Ralph and Barbara (Waltz) Smith. Roger was a Grand Junction native and attended Grand Junction High School and later graduated from Globe Arizona High School. He entered military service with the United States Navy in 1956 and was honorable discharged in 1961. Roger was very proud of being a Union Pipe Fitter and a member and Past State President and Four Corners President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 595. During a dance at the Eagles Aerie he asked a girl to dance and she declined. He asked her sister to dance, and they have been dancing ever since. On July 4, 1984 Roger married his dancing partner, Rebecca Marsh in Colorado Springs, CO, she survives. Roger enjoyed hunting, and fishing on the Grand Mesa every 4th of July and bowling with the Hayes Real Estate Rowdy's. Family, friends and co-workers will always remember Roger's mysterious saying "EGBOK" (Everything's going to be O.K.). Roger leaves behind his wife, Rebecca; a son, Ralph (Beth) Smith of Austin, TX; two daughters, Ruth (Jess) Hankins of Kersey, CO and Aliciamae Smith of Grand Junction, CO; two brothers, Darrell (Sharon) Smith of Williamsburg, CO and Jack (Sandy) Smith of Burlington, WY; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and five and one half great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles, one niece and one nephew. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 at Martin Mortuary with a visitation time Sunday, June 27, 2010, from 2 - 4:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
