Richard “Dick” Dalton, age 77, with family by his side, left this earth on January 20, 2021, to be with his Heavenly Father. He was a kind, easy-going, witty, hard-working, loving, and amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and we will all miss him dearly.
Dick was born January 23, 1943, in Bloomfield, NE to Derrel Dalton and Virginia (Anderson) Dalton. At an early age his family moved to Commerce City, CO. As a teenager he played drums with “The Jokers” rock ‘n’ roll band, playing locally and throughout the country backing up recording artist such as Gene Vincent and Donnie Brooks. Shortly after graduating from Adams City High School in 1961, Dick enlisted in the US Navy. While home on military leave in 1963 Dick met the love of his life, Kathy Hedrick, and they were married on September 3, 1965, two weeks after he was discharged from the Navy. Dick loved spending time with his family, gardening, music, “antiquing,” visiting historical locations, and trips with Kathy to Hawaii.
Dick worked at Mile High Equipment Co. in Denver for 23 years before moving to Southern California where he was VP of Operations at Golden West Equipment Co. for 18 years. After retiring, he returned to Colorado in 2015 and settled in Grand Junction. There, he accepted Jesus as his personal savior and enjoyed attending Victory Life Church with his family and daily Bible reading with Kathy.
Dick was preceded in death by his father and mother, and two brothers: Michael Dalton and John Cooper.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Kathy; daughters: Kollette (Eddie) Elari, Michele (Aaron) Sohegian, and Stephanie Dalton; grandchildren: Gianna, Tiara, and Ali Elari; Jack, Peyton, and Blake Sohegian; and Camille DeMaria; sisters: Kolleen Rudman, Charlene (Bill) Finney, and Donna (Bob) Terrell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Dick’s life will be held Friday, March 12, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Victory Life Church in Fruita, CO with a luncheon afterward. Burial with military honors will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Grand View Cemetery in Montrose, CO.
