Ralph Porter Selch, age 95, of Clifton, Colorado, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024. He was born on November 18, 1928, in Utah to Charles E. Selch and Emma Shellebarger. Ralph's family relocated to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where he graduated from Steamboat Springs High School. Standing at 6ft 6in, Ralph loved playing basketball. He pursued higher education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, earning a bachelor's degree in Agriculture.
Ralph's career flourished as he became a successful insurance agent for State Farm, owning his own agency in Steamboat Springs. He also served with valor in the United States Army during the Korean War, fulfilling the role of a forward observer for the artillery.
In addition to his professional achievements, Ralph was renowned for his expertise as a gardener, receiving accolades such as Master Gardener of the Year in Colorado. His passion for gardening extended to Washington state, where he also achieved Master Gardener status. Ralph devoted substantial time to community service, including serving as President of the Rotary Club in Steamboat Springs and as a member of the school board for eight years. He also dedicated 35 years to the Steamboat Springs Ski Patrol.
Ralph will be fondly remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his unwavering dedication to his community and his deep-seated passion for gardening and service.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Jean.
