Petra Elscia Salazar (Martinez)

Petra was preceded in death by her husband Jose Salvador Salazar, her parents Pedro C. Martinez and Carmelita Martinez and all her siblings. She missed them all, but Amelia, her big sister and best friend, was the one she missed the most. They never missed a day of communication or getting together.

Petra was born and raised in Alamosa, Colorado. Petra moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in the early 1970’s and raised her children there.

Petra is survived by her children, David Valpando, Gary Valpando, Richard Martinez, Pete Vigil, Melody Kirby and her cat. Her cat was her loyal companion to the very end and is entrusted to her granddaughter Mikaela Vigil. Her cat’s name is not listed because she seemed to change his name weekly. Petra was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She loved them all.

Time spent with her family was what Petra cherished most in life. For the first Thanksgiving in years, she was blessed to see her four sons together.

Petra had an uncomplicated life. She loved being with her family whenever she could. She spent her free time searching for a good deal at the neighborhood thrift stores. Petra was a huge collector of troll figures and enjoyed showing them off to anybody who would let her, especially her family.

No funeral services are planned.

There will be a celebration of life when all of her family can be together.
