It is with great sadness that we must share the news of our beloved mother, Nancy Mason’s passing. Nancy Jean Mason went to meet our Lord and Savior on Monday, December 20, 2021. Nancy passed away at her home.
Nancy was born on August 27, 1944, in Glendale, California to Betty and Lyman Akin. She and her two sisters spent their childhood in Rye, Colorado. Nancy graduated from Rye High School in 1962. On August 1, 1969, she married Larry Mason in Pueblo, Colorado. They were blessed with three boys, Cameron, Joe and Jeff Mason. Nancy spent most of her adult life in Grand Junction, CO where she was a Claims Specialist for Farmers Insurance.
Nancy was an accomplished pianist and vocalist. She inherited her love of music from her granddad. In her teens and twenties, she would perform with him at venues around Southern Colorado. Nancy spent a number of years singing with the Sweet Adelines.
She shared her love of music with her boys by supporting and fostering their musical talents. Nancy never missed her sons’ performances. She enjoyed being the piano accompanist for her sons and later her grandchildren as they performed in the local Solo Ensemble festival.
Nancy was also a skilled bowler and competed in many leagues and tournaments in Montrose and Grand Junction until her health no longer allowed her to play.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served callings as Primary and Relief Society pianist. Her testimony and love of the Savior was evident in how she lived her life.
Nancy was a true blessing to everyone who knew her and will always be remembered for her kind heart and warm smile. Those who were fortunate enough to know her well, know she had a wonderful sense of humor and keen wit.
Nancy is preceded in death by her father, Lyman Akin, her mother, Betty Flint and stepfather, Clarence Flint. She leaves behind her husband, Larry Mason, her three boys, Cameron (Marlena) Mason, Joe (Nicole) Mason, and Jeff (Jennie) Mason and her seven grandchildren, CJ, Brooke, Emma, Jake, Joey, Tanner and Kaylyn Mason. She also leaves behind two sisters, Linda (Mickey) Barnhart and Shirley (Richard) Pool along with many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2235 Kingston Rd, Grand Junction, on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 11:00a.m. A graveside dedication will follow at 1p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
