Nancy Martinez passed away February 26, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital, she was 64.
Nancy was born on July 13, 1950 in Saguache, Colorado from the union of Arthur and Irene Archuleta. She spent her childhood in the San Luis Valley, Colorado area and graduated from Center High School. She later attended Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado for nursing and Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado.
She met Arthur V. Martinez on a blind date, inspired unknowingly by his future father-in-law, who had told him he was getting “old” and needed to get married. Upon finding out that Art and Nancy were to be married he exclaimed humorously, “I told you to get married, but not to my daughter.” Art and Nancy married on May 24, 1968 in Center, CO, Art preceded Nancy in death on July 4, 2011.
Nancy was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing and reading western romances.
Her family will always remember her as a great wife, mother and grandmother who was always there for her family.
Nancy leaves behind her three daughters; Brenda (Rodney) Alire, Glenda (Alex) Santistevan and Maxine Velarde all of Grand Junction, CO, a sister; Rosalie (Steve) Trujillo of Bakersfield, CA, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law; Ronald Velarde and a niece; Sheila Trujillo.
A rosary will be held from 6-8:00 PM, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Martin Mortuary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 6, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
