He was retired from the United States Air Force.
Melvin’s survivors include his son, DeWayne Cabel of Chesapeake, Virginia; his daughter, LeRea Wilson of Bakersfield, California; four stepchildren, Gary Nikkola of Oak Harbor, Washington, Roger Nikkola of Mayer, Minnesota, Tina Raasveld of Las Vegas, Nevada, and April Buckus of Manhattan, Kansas; his sister, Essie Cornelison of Grand Junction; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death is his wife, Annette Cabel; son, Kurtis Cabel; mother, Martha Cabel; and father, Ralph Cabel.
A committal service will be held on Monday, August 27 at 1:00 pm at the Veterans Cemetery of Western Colorado 2830 Riverside Parkway Grand Junction, CO 81501.
